⁠the song is called twilight zone. being “in the twilight zone” is not knowing the difference between what’s imaginative & what’s reality. in the hook, ariana is saying she doesn’t miss her ex nor wishes to call them, but whenever she reflects on their time together, she genuinely cannot believe their relationship was real. notice how she said “you happened” & not like “this happened”. she’s referring to her ex like an EVENT that left great impact, rather than a person. this is so PERFECT, ariana 🥹 a true songwriter!!!

Plus the part where she states about pretending the songs arent about HIM who can't/shan't be named. Everyone though Dalton was so "normal" ( even tho a millionaire in his own right) and yet he did her dirty by the sounds of it, not as others tried to make out that it was Ariana bed hopping again! I love all her albums am a huge fan but this particular album( although not my personal favourite) is her at her most real, truest form you can her the growth and maturity in both her voice and lyrics ❤

I listen to throughout my whole experience and the fact that you’ve took one song and produced it in a more healed way honestly honestly think that I can be healed and if anything could change an icon to. it’s a good way of reminiscing on your past relationships realising how bad they were to you but you wouldn’t change a thing because it’s shaped you into who you are today throughout life almost every mistake you make every experience you go through shapes you and it helps you to realise for example if you get scammed on and like adopt me when you’re younger it helps you from losing millions of pounds when you get older or being in life. this song describes the feeling of how, in healing after a while, you remember and realize that it was real, and that it did happen. And sometimes, although you forget, you realize that after all, you did move on, you are okay, and after everything, you've finally made it on the other side. It's like the opposite of "I wish I hated you" because in this song, there's acceptance, there's healing, there's hurt but there's an understanding that although the suffering was difficult, you realize your survival was the most beautiful thing out of that experience, that you wouldn't change a thing about it because it made you the person you are right now and where you needed to be. There's no regret, no more guilt. There's a bittersweet feeling to realizing you have healed through it and you realize that sometimes things happen the way they do, but life goes on anyway, we continue living nonetheless.
